Getting indexed on Google

Getting websites indexed on Google.

Getting indexed with Google is today’s goal. In my previous blog I discussed the benefits of SEO. Now ask yourself a couple of questions. Do the search engines know my site exists? and If they don’t, what am I gonna do about it? Get your site indexed with Google, that’s what!

Having a website that succeeds in capturing the eye of the search engine crawlers all comes down to understanding just how they actually catalog and present their data.

So how does Google do it?

Google uses a crawler to collect information from your website. When the data has been retrieved it needs to be indexed. Indexing is the way your site is processed and listed by Google. Once your site has been indexed it will be searchable.

During indexing, Google looks at your pages and it’s title tags, meta-descriptions, and alt tags. Remember that crawling and indexing is an ongoing process. The web is dynamic, always growing and changing. When your site is updated Google will find out.

If your site isn’t indexed your pages won’t attract traffic but it’s easy to get Googles full attention.

How Do I Submit My Site to be indexed?

Submitting your website to Google to be indexed is easy.

There are 5 simple steps to follow

Step 1: Follow the link to Google Search Console.  If you haven’t already added and verified your domain.  Here’s how.

Step 2: Once your site is added and verified it should look like the image below. Click on the website address or the image of your site and go to step 3.

Step 3: Click on “Crawl” in the left hand column to expand the menu and choose “Fetch as Google” from the sub menu.

Step 4: Enter the URL of the page you want to have indexed by Google. Then click the red “FETCH” button.

Step 5: Once adding the URL is completed and the Fetch button has been clicked you can request Google to index the content. Simply click the “Request indexing” button.

A pop up appears that will ask you to confirm that you are not a robot and present you two options:

  1. Crawl only this URL
You want to choose this option if this content is new or updated. Google will crawl only this page.
  2. Crawl this URL and its direct links
You want to choose this option if you’ve made changes to your site and want Google to crawl the URL and all linked content.

Confirm you are a human and choose one of the crawl options. Then click the blue “OK” button to submit your content to the Google index.

All done and indexed with Google.

Well done….you’ve indexed your website with Google.

Hope this was easy to follow and you have succeeded. Please leave a comment if this has helped or leave your contact details and I will inform you of future updates. Also feel free to share on social media. It would be great if you could link back to my site.

There are exiting times ahead and I would hate for you to miss anything.

Hope to see you soon.
